Dump truck driver faces DUI charges

A dump truck driver from New Jersey was recently arrested in Pennsylvania. Police claim that he was under the influence of alcohol while he was driving his truck, and that caused him to lose control and crash the vehicle.

The accident happened at about 9:30 on a Monday morning, in Northampton County. The driver, who is 38 years old, had already gotten a full load of asphalt and was driving down Raubsville Road. That is where the truck left the pavement and slammed into a tree.

The crash wasn't quite over yet. The impact was bad enough that it rolled the heavy vehicle on its side. That caused the asphalt to spill out of the bed and cover the road.

Police were called, and pictures show numerous emergency response vehicles sitting near the dump truck, with a forested area in the background. Officers said that they determined that the man had been drinking -- they did not say what tests they used to do so, however -- and they arrested him. He is facing DUI charges.

The driver was hurt in the crash, but reports claim his injuries are minor. No other vehicles were involved and no further injuries were reported.

Some may be surprised that someone could get a DUI that early in the morning, but it is important to note that this can happen after a night of heavy drinking. It takes so long for your blood alcohol content (BAC) to decrease that you can go to sleep, wake up and still legally be drunk, even though you think you're not.

If this happens to you, make sure you know all of the legal defense options at your disposal.
