New Jersey man accused of driving while intoxicated and homicide

A New Jersey man has been indicted on charges of drunk driving and aggravated manslaughter, something which is often difficult enough to endure under the best of circumstances. The 37-year-old Jersey City resident was accused of causing the deaths of multiple family members, something which may be even harder to have to handle. Allegedly, he was driving while intoxicated following a family gathering.

The man faces multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated manslaughter (first degree), three counts of vehicular homicide (second degree) and one count of assault by motor vehicle (third degree). He also faces five counts of assault by motor vehicle (fourth degree) and a count of endangering a child's welfare. Finally, he has been charged with drunk driving, reckless driving and other driving violations.

The force of the tragic motor vehicle accident caused several individuals to be ejected from the man's vehicle. Three passengers were killed, including a 62-year-old woman, an 11-year-old and a 36-year-year-old who was 5 months pregnant. The driver and five more passengers were injured in the wreck.

The driver must now face the driving while intoxicated, manslaughter and other serious charges in court. Not only is he mourning the loss of his family members and facing intense emotions associated with being the driver in the accident that claimed their lives, but he must also undergo New Jersey criminal proceedings. He may be able to better his situation legally during his criminal defense. He may even be able to succeed in getting some of his more severe charges dropped by reaching a plea bargaining arrangement with the prosecution during the litigation of his case.
