Insurance fraud allegations leveled against New Jersey couple

Serious criminal charges can be brought against an individual if he or she is accused of having engaged in a fraud scheme. If a person is convicted of fraud-related charges, he or she can be given major criminal punishments. Such punishments can have a variety of significant impacts on an individual. Thus, being accused of having committing fraud crimes can be a very serious allegation for an individual to face.

Recently, a case involving fraud allegations has arisen. The case involves a New Jersey couple. The couple (a 46-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman), ran an insurance brokerage in Far Hills, New Jersey. The brokerage sold lawsuit insurance policies for officers of companies. The couple has been accused of having engaged in an insurance fraud scheme.

The scheme allegedly involved collecting premiums in connection to policies they sold and then keeping these premiums for themselves rather than giving the premiums to the insurance companies they were supposed to go to. Allegedly, in total, the scheme involved nearly $1.8 million.

Recently, a grand jury indicted the couple in relation to these allegations. The couple reportedly faces a variety of charges, including charges of insurance fraud, misapplication of entrusted property, theft and conspiracy. Reportedly, the couple could be given substantial prison sentences if they are convicted of the charges they face. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this case.

As this case illustrates, being accused of fraud can lead to a person facing major charges and serious potential consequences. Thus, if an individual is facing fraud accusations, he or she may wish to consider seeking advice from a criminal defense attorney.
