Pennsville man arrested for past-due child support payments

Child support payments are not optional. They are a court-mandated requirement that must be paid by one parent to ensure the care of a child or number of children when they are in the custody of another parent. Failure to make required child support payments can result in state officials engaging in child support enforcement actions. Those who feel a parent is negligent in their child support obligations should seek to understand their rights and responsibilities under the law.

A man from Pennsville, New Jersey, was arrested last week due to his failure to pay $34,266.53 in overdue child support. The 33-year-old man was arrested in Salem on outstanding child support warrants issued by Salem County.

Officers also arrested a 45-year-old man from Woodbury for an $821.55 child support warrant issued by the same county. The arrest occurred in Woodstown. Both men are being held in the Salem County Correctional Facility in Mannington Township.

Failure to pay child support can result in additional civil and even criminal penalties based on the particulars of each case. Custodial parents have a right to understand their rights and how they can get repayment by non-custodial parents who have neglected to hold up their end of a child support order. Understanding the many factors that influence child support payments, enforcement and agreements can help a parent ensure they have the financial means to raise their children.
