4 New Jersey juveniles charged with mischief

It is unlikely that any individual in New Jersey escaped those teenage years unscathed. It is time of indiscretion and mistakes. Part of those mistake are what shape individuals into upstanding adults. Most of us have done things that we are not proud of. Often, during the teenage years, there are so many changes occurring throughout the body and the brain is still developing, so while teens shouldn't have free reign and permission to do whatever they please, it is unfair to hold them to the same standards as adults. They aren't adults, they have different brains. Their cognitive and reasoning capabilities are still developing.

It is for this reason that there is a juvenile court system. Through this system, juveniles are still held accountable, but the punishment is usually less severe. However, juvenile convictions can have lasting consequences on an individual's life that could linger into adulthood.

Several teens were recently arrested after reports of damaged vehicles and broken glass in the Neptune Township, New Jersey, area. Four of the teens were 17 years old and one of them was 18 years old. All of the teens were charged with third-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief. The 18-year-old was additionally hit with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia charges.

The marijuana-related charges are a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $1,000. However, the third-degree criminal mischief charges are punishable by three to five years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines.

The complaints against the four juveniles have been referred to state Family Court. They will need to prepare an aggressive defense to ensure that this night of indiscretion does not mar their future.
