NFL player and his mother face white collar crime allegations

A former NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver and his 72-year-old mother have been indicted relating to a fraud conspiracy. New Jersey police believe that Irving Fryar, 51-years-old, and his mother conspired to steal money through fraudulent home equity loans. The two will have to defend against their white collar crime allegations in the New Jersey Superior Court.

According to the report, Fryar allegedly conspired with his mother, and she received five home equity loans within a six day period totaling $690,000. The two used the mother's home as collateral on each of the loans. The two also face the accusation of providing false wage income information, claiming that the mother earned thousands of dollars a month.

By applying within such a short time span and not admitting that they had any prior loans, the two supposedly deceived the banks into paying them. The police suspect that Fryar received or spent about $200,000 of the fraudulent loan money. The two supposedly only made a few payments on the loans, and they were eventually written off as losses.

Each person faces second-degree charges of conspiracy as well as theft by deception. These charges, if the two are found guilty, carry a $150,000 fine and a sentence of five to 10 years in a state prison. However, it is important to remember that all accused persons, celebrity athlete or not, are to be granted fair and unbiased criminal proceedings. Additionally, all persons facing New Jersey white collar crime allegations are innocent until -- and only if -- proved guilty in a court of law.
