Ways to make a divorce cheaper

Some New Jersey couples may have tried everything they can think of to make their marriages work only to find that divorce is imminent. When that occurs, they might want to start thinking of how they are going to pay for their divorces since divorce is indeed a costly process. Just because emotions are running high doesn't mean that finances have to be as well. Fortunately, there are some ways that people can make their divorces cheaper.

Do divorced friends in New Jersey lead others to get divorced?

New Jersey residents who know someone who got a divorce may be more likely to choose to end their own marriage. Brown University headed a team of researchers that looked at decades of data on marriage, divorce and remarriage that came from thousands of residents of a small town. The team discovered that people who had a friend who ended their marriage were 75 percent more likely to end their marriage, and 33 percent more likely if a friend of a friend divorced. However, at three degrees of separation, this phenomena was no longer in effect.

Divorce not so easy for same-sex couples

As same-sex marriage becomes a reality in New Jersey, many couples who are looking to take their vows may want to consider other legal issues regarding same-sex couples. According to a recent article, family law challenges such as divorce may be more difficult for same-sex couples than a person may expect.

Workplace rights for domestic violence victims

Victims of domestic violence in New Jersey now have the right to request time off from work. A new law in the state will allow the victims to take up to twenty days off work to deal with issues arising from domestic violence issues. The employee must have worked for the employer for at least one year and for at least 1,000 hours during the previous 12 months.
