Upsides after the divorce process

New Jersey couples going through a divorce might be of the mindset that things are never going to get better. However, there are upsides in the aftermath of divorce. The ways in which men and women deal with divorces differ as well, according to a recent piece.

Women tend to be the ones who initiate divorces, according to the piece. Therefore, they tend to have more confidence about the decision to get a divorce than men do. Men, on the other hand, are the ones who tend to be "blindsided" in divorces, so they usually experience more adjustments after a divorce than women do. More often than not, they are the ones who move out of the homes that they shared with their families. Men might go through more initial shock of change in the beginning of a divorce than women do too.

Women are also more likely to retain custody of their children in some form, the author claims, citing data from Mediate.com. Because of this, women might experience less emotional turmoil than men after the divorce. Research has shown that men who have some sort of custody over their children tend to be better fathers and tend to pay their child support more regularly too, and because women are sometimes left as the primary caregivers for their children after the divorce, they might experience more stress.

Other patterns emerged, according to the author: Although men might experience more emotional and physical loss at first, they tend to rebound and get remarried more quickly than women do. While women might be resilient after a divorce, they tend to be more cautious before entering into a marriage again the next time around.

Divorce attorneys might be able to help divorcing spouses ensure that they negotiate all issues in their divorce agreements. They might help them come to terms concerning child custody, alimony and division of property that they can both agree to.
