35-year-old man wanted in New Jersey domestic violence case

A 35-year-old man from New Jersey is accused of holding his former girlfriend captive in January, shooting a weapon in her apartment while their child was there and taking off from the scene in his girlfriend's Honda Accord with a stolen weapon. According to authorities, they are looking for the suspect who faces numerous charges, including domestic violence, child endangerment, false imprisonment, auto theft and weapons crimes.

Although the alleged incident of domestic violence happened in January, the woman, who is the mother of the man's two children, did not report it until Feb. 22. Authorities did not disclose the reason for the delay.

When someone alleges criminal charges of domestic violence during family cases, the matter can become complex and involved. A family attorney who understands the dynamics of domestic violence might be able to help clients resolve a number of issues surrounding a break up, such as issues of spousal support, child custody, child support and visitation when the parents are not legally married. If the courts question the safety of a child seeing a parent, they can set up supervised visitation.

When a person accuses their partner of physical abuse, the courts may enforce an order of protection against the individual, especially when there are children involved. The courts are concerned for the safety of all parties, and legal documents may emphasize the need for the accused to stay away from an ex partner. A family law attorney could consider the best interests of the children when scheduling visitation and assessing child support.
