Children to be interviewed in Deion Sanders' divorce

As some New Jersey residents may be aware, former NFL player Deion Sanders and his wife have been trapped in a contentious divorce for some time. While the couple has disagreed on many things, currently at the heart of their divorce is child custody and support.

Sanders and his ex-wife have three children together who are between the ages of 9 and 12. In a court hearing this week, child support and Sanders' current finances were discussed. But the most important issue that the judge chose to focus on was the well-being of the children involved.

A counselor who has worked with the children testified that the divorce was stressful for the children, who she said were experiencing heightened anxiety and frustration over their parents' messy split. The counselor support these statements by saying the Sanders don't always adhere to the custody schedule that was set, which confuses the children. Sometimes the children don't even stay with the same parent.

Currently, both parents are hoping to gain full custody of the children. However, allegations of abuse and mistreatment have clouded the process. A hearing this week was supposed to determine temporary child custody, but it's not clear if a decision was made.

While the Sanders are a high-profile couple working through issues that people in New Jersey don't always have to deal with, their battle over child custody is one that many people can likely relate to. Parents who are splitting sometimes have differing opinions on what is the best living arrangement for their children -- and neither parent likely wants to give up time with their kids. Ultimately, however, it's important to keep in mind the best interests of the children, which can include parents adjusting how they act around their kids. If parents cannot agree on a solution, the court will step in to determine the option that will best serve the children involved.
