Jersey City woman injured in alleged domestic violence case

Victims of domestic violence should know that there are laws in place to help them both in the family law and criminal law aspects that may be involved in a given situation. Sadly, a 36-year-old woman from Jersey City was injured recently as a result of domestic violence. Fortunately, she has options for finding safety.

The woman sustained injuries including a possible concussion and broken ribs after her boyfriend allegedly attacked her head and body with the leg off of a table on Nov. 24. The woman's injuries were treated at the Jersey City Medical Center. The woman told police she and the boyfriend were having a talk at around 4 a.m. when she said she wanted to go to bed. The 35-year-old man then started to beat her with the table leg. He dropped the woman off at the emergency room four hours later.

Police arrested the man at his apartment. He was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence, unlawful possession of weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Domestic violence victims often face many difficulties. This is especially true in cases of spousal abuse or when the safety of children is a concern. It's not said if this couple has children or not, but no matter, this victim should understand what rights are given to her by the law. An experienced family law attorney can help individuals who have found themselves in this difficult situation decide how to move forward, whether through divorce, a restraining order or a different method.
